42nd COTSEAL Conference_Call for abstracts!

The Council of Teachers of Southeast Asian Languages (COTSEAL) warmly invites educators, researchers, practitioners, and advocates to submit presentation proposals for our upcoming conference on innovations and practices in Southeast Asian language teaching and learning.

We welcome submissions that align with the conference theme and engage with one or more of the following areas:

  • Innovative and Critical Pedagogies: technology-mediated instruction, translanguaging, and learner-centered approaches that respond to multilingual realities
  • Curriculum and Materials Design: development of context-responsive curricula, open educational resources (OER), and task- or project-based learning materials
  • Heritage Language Teaching and Community Engagement: heritage learner experiences, community-based pedagogies, and intergenerational language practices
  • Teacher Development and Practitioner Research: teacher learning, reflective practice, and classroom-based or action research
  • Language Ideologies, Identity, and Investment: critical examinations of how beliefs about language shape learner engagement, access, and participation
  • Assessment and Meaningful Evaluation: equitable, proficiency-oriented, and context-sensitive assessment practices
  • Advocacy and community-based initiatives that advance Southeast Asian languages

Presentation Formats

  • Papers: 20-minute presentations followed by a 10-minute Q&A
  • Panels: 60-minute collaborative discussions involving 3–4 speakers
  • Roundtables: 45-minute sessions followed by a 15-minute Q&A
